Our third grade, 8 and 9 year old, Bear Scouts’ year focuses on strengthening their woodworking skills (both tools for building and knives for whittling), basic campsite setup, wildlife observation, horticulture, and community awareness. Along the way, they have the opportunity to work on electives including fishing, crafting musical instruments, meal planning, Native American history, animal husbandry, forensic science, community service, rudimentary mechanical engineering, learn various ways to play with a classic toy (marbles), practice comedic timing, explore the basic principles of robotics, swimming, and the scientific method.
Our husband and wife leadership team for the Bear Den consists of Joe Harrell and his wife, Casie, who joined our pack two years as the incoming Tiger Den leadership. Joe is a LIFE Scout and Casie is an enthusiastic den mother. Both are committed to seeing their den complete the Cub Scout program and join Boy Scouts. Joe has recently agreed to further help the pack as Assistant Cubmaster for those times when our Cubmaster is indisposed.
